Real basketball is back! After a week off it’s good to get a six-game slate as each team is well rested and ready to roll. The slate has a ton of #revenge spots and a superstar with a new home, so we at NBA Narratives are going to do our best to highlight those players. Here we go…
Demarcus Cousins takes on cover boy status for today’s #narrativestreet as he suits up in his first game in a Pelicans uniform. The hype of a Boogie-Brow (Anthony Davis) front court pairing is devastating for opposing teams. This graphic as provided to us from statmuse.com sums up the shear dominance of these two:
It wasn’t without emotion as Cousins said farewell to his Sacramento supporters via Instagram:
“Words can’t even express how hard it is for me to have to leave the city of Sacramento and all of the amazing people that I have met while out here. I gave it my all for you and you gave it right back. The most amazing fans on the planet and I just want you to know that your support has meant everything to me. It’s hard to believe that it was seven years ago that this young kid from Alabama showed up in Sacramento scared and not knowing a soul. As I look back upon my time here, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have met so many amazing people, many of whom went out of their way to make me feel right at home from day one. Each and every one of you have played such an important part in my life and helping me become the person I am today. I don’t just consider you all as fans, you all are my family…and a couple thousand miles aren’t going to change a thing. Thank you Sacramento.” #LoyaltyisLove
This exact photo from Boogie’s Twitter donning the Kings arena and jersey just a week ago is now somewhat altered:
Maurice Harkless (Portland) travels to Orlando tonight where he spent three seasons and played in 201 games while a member of the Magic. His fantasy production against his old team has been putrid, but with Evan Turner and Al-Farouq Aminu already ruled out Mo Hark could receive elevated minutes at a discounted DFS price.
Marreese Speights (LA Clippers) goes into the Oracle tonight where he spent three seasons and played in 227 games. Shout out to Rotoworld’s Michael Gallagher (@MikeSGallagher) whenever Mo’ Buckets does something worthy on any given night he tweets out just this simple photo:
Shaun Livingston (Golden State) gets the team that drafted him (LA Clippers) and he spent his first three injury plagued seasons. Obviously Shaun is merely a reserve guy for Steph Curry, but this game has blow out potential so should get some extra burn in garbage time.
Ty Lawson (Sacramento) hosts a Denver team tonight which drafted him and he spent the first six seasons, 416 total games, playing in the Association before being traded for one too many off the court incidents.
Arron Afflalo (Sacramento) also gets his former Denver team where he played 266 games over a four season span.
Kosta Koufos (Sacramento) makes it a trio #revenge for the Kings tonight. Koufos played in 140 games over the span of three NBA seasons.
Channing Frye, Iman Shumpert, Derrick Williams, J.R. Smith (Cleveland) all once played for the Knicks whom they are hosting Thursday night. J.R. Swish is out still battling an injury but the other three are firmly in #revenge spots. Shumpert played 202 games over four seasons in New York, Williams 80 total games during the 2015-2016 season and finally Frye spending two seasons with the team spanning 137 games. Fun fact — Channing Frye’s nickname is “Buffet of Goodness” according to http://www.basketball-reference.com
Ryan Anderson (Houston) travels back to The Big Easy to take on a Pelicans team he spent four seasons chucking up three’s and playing little to no defense. This season, Ryno’s home / away splits are pretty staggering. In 27 home games, Anderson has scored 296 points on 37.5% shooting (32% from three-point land). In a sample size of 28 away game, this same person has 466 total points while shooting 45.7% (46% from three). In a game now with all sorts of narrative, this guy is going to go overlooked in a prime #revenge spot with pretty drastic away splits this season.
Terrence Jones (New Orleans) spent four seasons with Rockets spanning 178 games total. Tough to predict if T.J. gets to unleash his #revenge prowess with Boogie now in town.
Eric Gordon (Houston) totaled 221 games over five seasons for the Pelicans before signing with the Rockets in this past off-season. Gordon is coming off a 3-point contest win during the All-Star break. Perhaps Gordon continues the hot-hand in a real life tonight and thus completes the #revenge / #3-pointspecialist double narrative.
Omer Asik (New Orleans) is a DFS non-factor but did play for Houston for two seasons.
LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony square up tonight in Cleveland. A lot of rumor has swirled about ‘Melo and James wanting to play together and it’s no secret they are very close friends. The last two games Carmelo has visited Cleveland has been met with DFS success by scoring 44.5 and 56.5 DraftKings points:

Andrew Wiggins (not on slate)
D’Angelo Russell (not on slate)
Jamal Murray (Denver) gets a #birthdaynarrative game but Emmanuel Mudiay has already been declared as playing so upside is capped with him back.
As always, let us know what we missed @nbanarratives — Thank You!
