January 24th #NARRATIVESTREET

Woof! We won’t be taking a drive down narrative street today, rather we’ll be taking our dog on a short walk. Six game slate in the Association tonight; however, we’re not finding many narratives of note early in the day. A day without birthdays, bobbleheads and homecomings is a quite day on the street.

Walking our dog with us is one of our favorite Lithuanian’s, cover boy Jonas Valanciunas, who’s Raptors host the Spurs on a back to back. Toronto dropped their last game, a 103-115 loss at home to the Suns, they also lost their All-Star DeMar DeRozan for at least two games. This loss following a blowout loss in Charlotte on Friday where the Raptors only scored 78 points, this a game after they lost to the Sixers in Philly. We have to go back a week to find the last Raptors’ victory, a win over the lowly Nets. The Raptors have been back in Toronto since Saturday, JoVal should be fresh and ready to get his squad back to clawing at the Cavs. It’s worth noting, despite the Raptors 3-game skid, they haven’t lost much ground in the East as the Cavs & Celtics have both dropped two straight. #EndTheSkid may not be a real narrative yet – but with the Raptors playing in Memphis tomorrow and hosting the hot young Bucks on Friday, this tilt tonight vs the Spurs is an important one for the Raptors as with DD on the shelf, the prospect of a 6-game losing streak is very much in the range of outcomes.

The Raptors should be playing inspired, leaving it all the court to get a win vs the Spurs and Kyle Lowry and Terrance Ross may get most of the hype today with DD out, rightfully so, both see a solid bump in usage and fantasy points per minute with DD off the court. Lowry’s FPP jumps from 1.07 to over 1.3 with DeRozan off court and Ross sees a 4.2% bump in usage. Let the others tout Skinny Kyle & T Ross, JoVal is our favorite of the bunch. Canadian Cory Joseph is also not to be overlooked in his #RespectGame – we’ve decided revenge games vs Pop would be more appropriately deemed respect games.

Playing against the Spurs will tend to keep ownership down and although the Spurs have been one of the best limiting DK points against the Center position on the season (42.8/game – 2nd to only Memphis per Rotowire), they have slipped recently as injuries are taking their toll. In the last five games, Center position points against have jumped to 50.3/game.

JoVal is running good with double doubles in 5 of his last 7, including a strong 16/12, 43DK point performance his last time out and a 50 burger in that seven game stretch. He’s hot, the Spurs are slipping vs bigs and when DD is off the court – JoVal’s usage and production explodes! JoVal’s usage jumps 4.5% and his DK/per 36 jumps nearly 16 points to 48.8!

Revenge Games

Cory Joseph (Raptors vs Spurs) We believe every former player of Pop’s must be grateful for time spent with the legend and strive to impress their former Coach

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (Clippers @ Sixers) Still everyone’s favorite Cameroonian even if he’s not rosterable in DFS.

The Entire Wizards Squad (Wizards vs Celtics) Wall & the Wizards wearing all black & ready for a funeral!? ESPN sums up the feud well in this article.

“Celtics forward Jae Crowder and Wizards guard John Wall were both fined after the two engaged in an after-the-buzzer dustup during the teams’ most recent contest. That Jan. 11 meeting culminated with five Boston police officers standing guard between the two locker rooms at TD Garden after players continued to bark at each other upon leaving the court.”
